Egg-Fast!

An “EGG FAST”?  What the heck is that??

“An egg fast is a short-term diet plan that involves eating mainly eggs, cheese, and butter.  It’s popular among people who seek to break through weight loss plateaus, especially those on ketogenic diets.”

An egg fast is a subset of the carnivore diet — and the latter is pretty self-explanatory.  People find that by eating ten eggs per day it’s possible to kick-start ketosis, and thereby lose weight, have better sleep, and even (for some people) relieve Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).  Additional benefit:  you never feel hungry!  Here is what Healthline.com says about it:  EGG FAST DETAILS.

NOTE:  In general, people do this egg-fast for three, four, or five days only.  Please take a break of at least five days before another bout (if that checks for you).

Anyway, I have been experimenting with this, especially when I realized that I could have egg fast ice cream for breakfast!  Here are the main principles:

1.   Eat ten eggs per day:  no vegetables, no fruits, no grains, nada.  Salt and dairy are both okay.

2.   For each egg, make sure you include a tablespoon of butter and/or cream cheese, cheese, something with some fat.  For instance, if you have bacon fat, or some leftover beef fat or lamb fat, you can use that to fry your eggs. Otherwise, it’s butter all the way!

3.   Eggs and fat (butter, cheese) ONLY for three, four, or five days.  NO fiber, sugar, or carbs AT ALL.  This will kickstart ketosis.
